With summer coming to an end, popular events such as the ‘Red Bull Cliff Diving’ or ‘Galway International Arts Festival’ are over for another year. However, the west of Ireland and the Aran Islands and Doolin are still a great spot to visit and take a break any time during the year.
Visit native Tomás and Eoghan Poil, the brains behind the ‘Man of Aran Fudge’ company. A nice family story, Eoghan started selling his creamy, buttery fudge for his uncle on the island of Inis Mor, with the hope of expanding on to Inis Oirr next year. There are 23 delicious mouth-watering flavours which can be found here http://www.manofaranfudge.ie/flavours/ with the key ingredient being Kerrygold butter! Just delicious!
You might recognise Eoghan if you took a guided walk on the Aran Island (with the new adventure going so well, Eoghan’s guided walks have been put on hold for now.)
Every week Tomás and company sell fudge at a market, these markets include the Ploughing Championships, Dingle Food Festival and more.
Things seem to be going swimmingly for the pair, with Eoghan appearing on Nationwide last year. They thrive by being part of the atmosphere of the markets and fairs they attend. As Tomás says, “people enjoy it as part of a day out having fun. What I like best is the face-to-face contact with my customers, the chat and the feedback from people eating what I make – they are tasting my happy memories”.
