Bill O’Brien founder of The Doolin Ferry Company is delighted to announce our collaboration with Bird Watch Ireland. Bill says that this new initiative is designed to enhance our passenger experience while at the same time raise awareness of this wonderful organisation.
“For us this is such a natural relationship as we have been sailing these waters since 1970 taking passengers to and from the Aran Islands and under the Cliffs of Moher. The migrating sea birds are always a thrill to see either nesting on the cliffs or busy fishing at sea”.
Niall Hatch of Bird Watch Ireland says,
“BirdWatch Ireland, Ireland’s largest conservation charity, is delighted to be teaming up with The Doolin Ferry Company to showcase the fantastic birdlife of the area. The seabirds of the Co. Clare coast and the Aran Islands really are world-class, and we are especially pleased that passengers and crew will be able to help us to record seabird sightings during their voyages. We look forward to working closely with them to help promote the region’s wildlife, and we are most grateful to them for their support.”
And the news gets better – this weekend sees the inaugural Seabirds Festival at the Cliffs of Moher.
From Sat 9th – Thu 14th May 2015 the first Cliffs of Moher Seabirds festival will take place. A family friendly schedule of activities and events has been developed to celebrate the friendly feathery inhabitants at the Cliffs of Moher. There are over 60,000 Seabirds to see in their natural habitat including the delicate Kittiwake, the dapper Guillemot, soaring Fulmars, the sharp beaked Razorbill and everyone’s favourite – the comical Puffin with his colourful bill and eccentric walk. Meet a BirdWatch Ireland Expert, take a guided tour, a bird photography class, join in a Seabird Music session in Doolin and attend a family friendly Puffin Party. There will be lots of daily salty seabird shenanigans at the Cliffs for all ages and all abilities of birdwatchers to enjoy.
Up to three cruises will be run each day by The Doolin Ferry Co during the festival so that you can enjoy the birds above and below the cliffs. From the water see them nesting, feeding and generally creating a racket as they go about their daily routines. To book online visit us here!
