Inis Mór     (Inishmore)

This islands name means "Great Aran".  The Irish word Árainn means "long ridge" which is quite befitting.  Inis Mór is the largest of the three islands (14km by 3.8km) with a population of about 1000 people.

Inis Mór is the furthest island from Doolin Pier providing a gateway from Clare to Connemara.  The ferry crossing is about 1 hour (each way).  As this island is quite large and packed with sights to see, this is a full-days trip!

The world famous ring fort Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus) sits atop the Cliffs of Inis Mór rising 100 metres out of the Atlantic Ocean.  This amazing ruin is a truly stunning footprint of Ireland's rich history.

For more information on Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus) see here Dun Aengus

Not to be forgotten are the many other historical treasures throughout Inis Mór such as Churces, Forts, Seal Colonies and Beaches.

The main harbour Cill Rónán (Kilronan Village) where the ferry arrives is a bustling port with all of the modern conveniences you may need for your visit.
